Value super-foods (super-foods without the super price)
More and more people everyday are eating healthier thanks to the popularity of Super-foods, but the big problem with most super-foods is that it comes with a super price and that could put a lot of people off. Well I found some cheaper alternatives to the most popular so called ‘Super-foods’, which are even better for your health, and your bank account.
Nuts are a great vegetarian source of protein, almonds being one of the best but i’m going to convince you to trade all your almonds for Brazil nuts. Yes, Brazil nuts are a bit less in protein but compared to almonds, Brazil nuts have 153 times the amount of selenium, which is an important antioxidant for the protection of cells and it has a key role in maintaining a healthy metabolism.
Blueberries are great but I bet you didn’t know that blackberries have almost twice the amount of vitamin C think about that the next time you’re making a summer berries smoothie, let us know your fav berry smoothie.
Chia seeds>Sesame seeds
I never heard of chia seeds until last year when every celebrity and fitness guru were adding it to their smoothies and breakfasts. But there rise in popularity have seen its prices rise too. A much cheaper alternative is sesame seeds, they have almost double the amount of iron and higher in calcium, magnesium and vitamin B6.
Rapeseed oil>coconut oil
Gone are the days of cooking with sunflower and vegetable oil, many more people are leaning towards coconut oil for its many health and beauty benefits but if you want a healthier oil to cook with and have some spare change left in your pocket i recommend you go for rapeseed oil over coconut oil; it's a great source of omega 3,6,9 with 10 times more omega 3 than olive oil as well as the lowest saturated fat content of any oil, its the clear winner for clean eating.
From salads to smoothies kale has become an essential vegetable in super-food diets but I bet you didn’t think something common as broccoli is a much cheaper alternative and a lot healthier. I know it’s not twitter or Instagram worthy, but broccoli has more vitamin C and potassium, which is essential for heart function, you know the thing that pumps blood around your body, it’s somewhat important.
