Smoothies vs Juice (which is healthier)

Here at Flx, I tackled a personal curiosity, what do I do with my fruit and vegetables, do I blend them into a smoothie or juice them into… well, juice? They’re both a healthy alternative way to achieving one of your five a day and they both give your digestive system a break from digesting whole foods but that’s where the similarities end. I’m going to point out the benefits of each one and I want you guys to help me out deciding which ones better.

Every cup of fresh juice is packed with essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytonutrients and living enzymes aiding your body from digestion to cell repair to a healthier immune system. The best part is that all those great things for your body get infused into your bloodstream very quickly. If you’re a busy person; always on the move, a glass of juice can give you an instant rush of energy to keep you going.

 

But juicing isn’t perfect. Juicing removes all the fibre which is an essential part of our diet. The removal of fibre means that juice is higher in sugar content, and all that being absorbed in the bloodstream really quickly results in sugar spikes. I recommend you use more vegetables over fruit.

When we blend we blend the whole fruit and/or veg, resulting in a fibre rich beverage. This also bulks up the cup meaning fewer ingredients, which also means they are lower in sugar. Plus, drinking a smoothie is like eating a meal. If you don’t have time to sit and chew, grab a tasty smoothie.

 

When you’re blending we recommend using the freshest ingredients, only then are your cups going to be packed with essential vitamins, antibiotics, minerals, antioxidants and living enzymes. But unlike juice, these get absorbed through the bloodstream slowly throughout the day so you won’t be crashing by lunchtime.

 

Now let’s go to the negatives. Blending fruit and veg means you get to keep all the fibre but including that does make the digestive process a little harder. We also recommend you to get a top quality blender because the heat of the blender can cause the nutrients to be lost due to increased oxidation, blend quickly and on a low setting to reduce this.
